Letter from Overijssel offers support to SER Cura\u00e7ao:<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

\u201cYou are not alone\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Willemstad\/Zwolle, January 8, 2026 \u2014 The Social and Economic Council (SER) of Overijssel, Holland, has extended a message of support to the Social and Economic Council of Cura\u00e7ao in a letter dated January. 6, 2026, citing heightened regional uncertainty linked to recent developments in and around Venezuela. In the letter, Overijssel\u2019s council stressed solidarity with its Caribbean counterpart and underscored a simple message: \u201cYou are not alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The letter, signed by Frank Oostdam, chair of SER Overijssel, and Ingrid Oonk, its secretary-director, notes that periods of instability can place added demands on institutions tasked with advising and connecting social partners. It wishes SER Cura\u00e7ao \u201cstrength, wisdom and mutual support,\u201d and expresses hope that calm returns swiftly so the work of promoting prosperity and a balanced distribution of well-being on the island can continue.<\/p>\n

SER Cura\u00e7ao replied on January 7, 2026. The council said it \u201cgreatly appreciated the attention and support\u201d, and emphasized that, particularly amid international and regional uncertainty, a measured, factual and balanced approach is essential to support social calm and public trust in institutions. Acting within its statutory mandate, SER Cura\u00e7ao reaffirmed its commitment to constructive social dialogue and independent advice focused on stability, social cohesion and economic resilience.<\/p>\n

Both councils said they intend to maintain their ties and deepen exchanges on robust policy advice and on how advisory bodies can continue to fulfill their connecting role effectively as circumstances evolve.<\/p>\n

SER-advies uit over initiatiefvoorstel tot herziening OZB-stelsel<\/span><\/h1>
Willemstad, 15 juli 2025 \u2013 De Sociaal-Economische Raad (SER) heeft op vrijdag 11 juli jongstleden een advies uitgebracht over de initiatiefontwerplandsverordening tot wijziging van de Landsverordening inzake de belastingheffing van onroerende zaken (Landsverordening onroerendezaakbelasting 2014). Het advies werd uitgebracht op verzoek van de Staten van Cura\u00e7ao.<\/p>
Het initiatiefvoorstel is afkomstig van de fractie van de MAN in de Staten, die zich hierbij beroept op het recht van initiatief zoals vastgelegd in artikel 77 van de Staatsregeling van Cura\u00e7ao (A.B. 2010, no. 86). Dit artikel verleent Statenleden de bevoegdheid om wetsvoorstellen zelfstandig in te dienen en aan de regering voor te dragen.<\/p>
Met het ontwerp beogen de indieners een herziening van het huidige OZB-stelsel, onder meer door aanpassing van de tariefstructuur, verhoging van de vrijstellingsdrempel en vereenvoudiging van de administratieve verwerking van de belasting op onroerende zaken.<\/p>
